A family run veterinary surgery celebrates 30 years serving the local community at 40 Barrington Road this year. To mark the occasion they held an afternoon garden party with 70 of their longest standing clients.
The practice started in 1982 with Mrs Pam Hanson and currently operates with Mr Chris Hanson; Claire Hanson, their daughter who has been there 8 years and young vet Ashleigh Wilson whose parents made it over from Ireland for the event.
The Hansons and staff were delighted with the turn out and touched by the enthusiasm shown by the clients. The party involved drinks, canapés, sandwiches and cakes provided by the Oxford Road Café. Entertainment involved a fun quiz about dogs and cats, old and new photos of the surgery, members of staff past and present and a tombola for charity, (along with the Hanson’s pet dog Szusy). The Tombola run by Jessie raised £90 for the Society for Abandoned Animals based on Dane Road in Sale.
The photo competition of pets past and present saw several deserving winners:
Congratulations to Chester the Cuddliest Pet, Harry the Boxer for Waggiest Tail, Tanya for Best Dressed dog, Curtis for Cutest Kitty, Marmalade for Vainest Bunny– (a pet that was rescued through the surgery after being abandoned because she was born without ears), Best Beard went to Jess, with Pippin and Annie as close runners up and Best Companions went to Miley, Jemmina and Maggie.
Many of the clients brought gifts and made some beautiful collages and albums of their pets over the years. A number of these were animals which found their way to their owners and all were much loved and valued pets and faithful friends. These brought tears to the eyes of the staff and they will be treasured for many years to come.
The clients and all the staff expressed a special thank you to head nurse Vicky Yates who has been a loyal, diligent and caring example to the practice over the last 18 years.
